NYAMIRA, KENYA — October 18, 2026
The Seventh-day Adventist Church, Nyamira West Field (NWF), has officially bid farewell to Dr. Gladys Kerubo Kebaso following six years of dedicated service in the Women and Children Ministries departments from 2020 to 2026. Dr. Kebaso is transitioning to Kenyatta University, where she will serve as a chaplain, providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care to students and staff.
The farewell ceremony, held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Nyamira West Field headquarters, was jointly organized by the Field office and the Women and Children Ministries departments. Women and children ministry leaders turned out in large numbers to celebrate her contribution to the church and express their gratitude for her service.
The ceremony was graced by NWF leadership led by Executive Secretary Pr. Zablon Nyanumba, alongside Madam Faith Omwenga, Chief Finance Officer, departmental leaders, pastors, and other church representatives.
Also present was Pr. Julia Ogeto, the Nyamira Conference Women and Children Ministries departments leader.
Pr. Ongiri Calls for a Double Portion of Commitment
The spiritual highlight of the ceremony was a moving sermon delivered by Pr. Dominic Ongiri, the Women Ministries Department adviser. Drawing lessons from the biblical account of Prophet Elijah’s departure and Elisha’s succession in 2 Kings 2:9, Pr. Ongiri challenged the Women and Children
Ministries leaders to intensify their efforts following Dr. Kebaso’s transition.
Elisha requested a double portion of Elijah’s spirit before the older prophet was taken away. Using this account, Pr. Ongiri urged the leaders to work as though they had received a double portion of Dr. Gladys Kebaso’s spirit of dedication and commitment.
His message emphasized that the departure of a leader should not interrupt the progress of ministry but should inspire those who remain to take greater responsibility and advance the church’s mission.
NWF Leadership Appreciates Her Service
Speaking on behalf of the Nyamira West Field office, Executive Secretary Pr. Zablon Nyanumba expressed appreciation for Dr. Kebaso’s dedicated service during her six-year tenure. He acknowledged her contribution to the Women and Children Ministries and wished her success in her new assignment.
Madam Faith Omwenga, the Chief Finance Officer, also thanked the women for their continued commitment and the good work they are doing in their respective ministries. She encouraged them to remain dedicated to their responsibilities as the departments move forward.
Pr. Jeremiah Mogesi, who is stepping in to serve in an acting capacity in the departments, wished Dr. Kebaso well and encouraged her to maintain her connection with Nyamira West Field. He urged her not to forget the church community she had served and asked her to continue praying for and supporting the Field.
Pr. Julia Ogeto, he Nyamira Conference Women and Children Ministries departments leader, also thanked her for the good inter-organization relationship they have had which has straightened the two organizations. She wished her well and prayed for her.
Dr. Kebaso Thanks NWF Leadership and Challenges Ministry Leaders
In her farewell remarks, Dr. Gladys Kerubo Kebaso thanked the Nyamira West Field leadership for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the Women and Children Ministries for six years. She expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her and for the opportunity to serve the church through the two departments.
She also thanked the departmental leaders and members she had shepherded, acknowledging their cooperation and contribution throughout her tenure. As she prepared to take up her new assignment at Kenyatta University, she wished them well and encouraged them to keep the spirit of ministry burning.
Dr. Kebaso particularly challenged Children Ministries teachers to approach their calling with passion and a strong sense of responsibility. She urged them to teach young children diligently, equipping them with sound knowledge and strong moral values that would guide them throughout their lives.
Her message highlighted the importance of early childhood Christian education in shaping children’s character, strengthening their faith, and preparing them to become responsible members of the church and society.
She further expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gifts presented by the Women and Children Ministries, warmly receiving the gestures as expressions of love and gratitude from the departments.
Her remarks brought a personal touch to the ceremony, combining appreciation for the opportunity to serve with an appeal for continued commitment to nurturing women and children in the church.
Women and Children Ministries Honour Dr. Kebaso
The Children Ministries Department, led by Teacher Sally, wished Dr. Kebaso well and presented her with beautiful gifts in appreciation of her service.
The Women Ministries Department, under the leadership of Madam Alice Mokamba, also honoured her with gifts and expressions of gratitude. The gestures reflected the departments’ appreciation for her leadership and the relationships built during her tenure.
The presentations provided an opportunity for the ministry leaders to celebrate her contribution and encourage her as she embarks on a new chapter of service.
From Pastoral Ministry to University Chaplaincy
Dr. Kebaso’s appointment at Kenyatta University marks a new phase in her ministry. As a chaplain, she will provide spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and mentorship to students and staff within the university community.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and a Master’s degree in Religion from Spicer Memorial College. She later earned a PhD in Religious Philosophy from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Professionally, Dr. Kebaso served in various pastoral assignments under Nyamira Conference before continuing her ministry under Nyamira West Field. Her combination of pastoral experience and advanced academic training provides a foundation for her new responsibilities in higher education.
University chaplaincy will allow her to extend her ministry beyond the local church setting, engaging with students and staff on matters of faith, personal development, ethics, and spiritual well-being.
Family Life
Dr. Gladys Kerubo Kebaso is married to Pr. Peter Kebaso, and together they are blessed with three sons. Her family has accompanied her through her journey of pastoral service, academic advancement, and departmental leadership.
A New Chapter of Service
As Nyamira West Field bids farewell to Dr. Kebaso, the Field celebrates six years of service while encouraging the Women and Children Ministries to sustain their programmes under the acting leadership of Pr. Jeremiah Mogesi.
The biblical lesson drawn from Elijah and Elisha remains a fitting challenge to the departments: leadership transitions should inspire renewed commitment and continuity of mission.
For Dr. Kebaso, the move to Kenyatta University offers an opportunity to nurture faith and provide spiritual care in a new environment. For Nyamira West Field, her departure marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in the ongoing work of the Women and Children Ministries.
Nyamira West Field wishes Dr. Gladys Kerubo Kebaso God’s guidance and success as she begins her new assignment at Kenyatta University.
