Nyamira West Field Media Emphasis Sabbath Inspires Churches to Embrace Digital Evangelism

Majority of congregations successfully observe the Field-wide Media Emphasis Sabbath, calling for greater investment in media ministry and a dedicated media centre.

KEMERA, NYAMIRA COUNTY – In harmony with the Seventh-day Adventist World Church Calendar of Events, churches across Nyamira West Field successfully observed the Media Emphasis Sabbath on 18 July 2026. The majority of congregations conducted the special program under the theme, "Media Ministry: Proclaiming Christ to the World," reaffirming the vital role of media in proclaiming the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the Sabbath, churches emphasized that communication ministry is no longer optional but an essential component of the Church's mission in the digital age. Members were encouraged to intentionally use print, broadcast, and digital media to reach people with the saving message of Christ.

The day also featured awareness campaigns promoting official Adventist media platforms, including Kisima Radio—the only Seventh-day Adventist radio station serving the Gusii and Maasai regions—as well as Hope Channel Kenya, Adventist websites, social media platforms, and other communication channels that support evangelism and discipleship.

Nyamira West Field Communication Director, Pr. Stephen Okero, expressed gratitude to pastors, district communication coordinators, local church communication leaders, elders, and members for making the Communication Sabbath a success.

"The overwhelming response from our churches demonstrates

that communication ministry has become an indispensable tool for mission. I sincerely appreciate every pastor, communication leader, and church member who dedicated their time and resources to make this day impactful. Together, through every available media platform, we can proclaim Christ to the world," said Pr. Stephen Okero.

At Nyasore District, District Pastor Pr. Jabesh Nyang'ondi conducted a special session with young people, encouraging them to become digital missionaries by using social media responsibly to share biblical messages, Christian values, and the hope found in Jesus Christ.

The program attracted positive feedback from communication leaders across the Field.

Isaac Oigara, Communication Leader of Morako SDA Church, appreciated the initiative, saying it had increased members' awareness of the importance of communication ministry in supporting evangelism.

From Esani District, Henry Nyambane commended the continued development of the Nyamira West Field website, describing it as an effective communication and evangelistic platform that keeps members informed while extending the Church's witness beyond local congregations.

Representing Omogwa SDA Church, Daniel Bosire observed that digital evangelism is the future of gospel ministry and encouraged the Church to continue investing in online mission initiatives.

The Communication Leader for Riotero Station, who also serves as the Kiogo District Communication Leader, reported that the program was warmly received in churches throughout Kiogo District, with members expressing enthusiasm for future communication initiatives.

Other churches, including Eberege SDA Church in Gachuba District and Macedonia SDA Church in Nyachichi District among others, also applauded the program and pledged continued support for communication ministry in Nyamira West Field.

While a few districts were unable to conduct the program because of unavoidable circumstances, their leaders requested permission to hold the Meda Emphasis Sabbath at later dates. Their requests reflected a shared commitment to ensuring that every congregation benefits from the initiative.

One recommendation consistently echoed across the Field was the establishment of a Nyamira West Field Media Centre. Church leaders noted that such a facility would strengthen evangelism through professional production of audio, video, photography, and digital content while serving as a training hub for communication leaders and media volunteers throughout the Field.

The successful Media Emphasis Sabbath demonstrated the growing appreciation of media ministry within Nyamira West Field and reinforced the Church's commitment to utilizing every available platform to fulfill Christ's commission of taking the everlasting gospel to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.

Ellen G. White notes:

"The press is one of the means by which the Lord designs to enlighten the people and awaken an interest in the truth." — **Ellen G. White, Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 100.

Pr. Stephen Okero also highlighted the upcoming OneVoice27 initiative, noting that it is a strategic communication and evangelism campaign designed to strengthen the Church's digital mission. He encouraged members and communication leaders to prepare to fully embrace the initiative once it is officially launched by the East Kenya Union Conference (EKUC).

"OneVoice27 presents a unique opportunity for every church member to become a digital missionary. I encourage all our communication leaders, media teams, and members to be ready to embrace this initiative once it is officially launched by the East Kenya Union Conference. Together, speaking with one voice, we can proclaim Christ to many more people through every available media platform," said Pr. Stephen Okero.

The radio still remains the most effective and reliable source to many in our community. Through this and the other modern technology many people have received the message of the cross. It is our duty now to go deeper of it to reach souls for Christ.
