Nyamira West Field Trains Over 700 Master Guides to Strengthen Youth Ministry
Nyamira West Field has continued to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing competent and spiritually grounded youth leaders through its ongoing Master Guide Training Programme, which commenced in April 2026. The programme, spearheaded by the Youth Ministries Department under the leadership of Pr. David Omayio, has attracted approximately 700 trainees from across the field.
The training is aimed at both recertifying existing Master Guides and investing new Master Guides, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual foundation required to effectively mentor children and young people in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The programme is expected to conclude in early November 2026, with the official Investiture Ceremony scheduled for mid-November 2026.
Speaking about the initiative, Pr. Omayio emphasized that the Master Guide ministry remains the backbone of Adventist youth leadership. He noted that the department's objective is to ensure that every local church in Nyamira West Field has at least three active and trained Master Guides who can effectively support Adventurer and Pathfinder Clubs while providing Christ-centered mentorship to the younger generation.
To qualify for the programme, participants must be baptized members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing, receive a recommendation from their local church board, actively serve in an Adventurer or Pathfinder Club, complete a Basic Staff Training Course, and possess
the appropriate uniform with correctly placed insignia. Candidates are also required to submit supporting documents, including proof of baptism, Basic Staff Training certification, church recommendation, and previous investiture or renewal certificates where applicable. Those seeking recertification must complete the renewal programme and abide by the Nyamira West Field Master Guide Code of Conduct.
Despite the programme's success, Pr. Omayio acknowledged that it faces notable challenges. Conducting training at centralized station venues requires considerable financial resources for facilitation and learning materials, while some participants travel long distances to attend classes. In addition, the comprehensive curriculum requires a significant investment of time from trainees.
Even so, he expressed confidence that the programme will produce competent, committed, and Christ-centred leaders who can effectively mentor children and young people in today's rapidly changing world.
"Properly trained youth leaders are better equipped to guide our children and youth in Christian values. Such leadership helps address the moral challenges we continue to witness in our schools and society," Pr. Omayio said.
The Youth Ministries Director appealed to church members throughout Nyamira West Field to continue supporting the Master Guide ministry and the wider Children's and Youth Ministries through prayer, financial support, and active involvement. He also encouraged local churches to create meaningful opportunities for young people to participate in church programmes and leadership.
Looking to the future, the department plans to introduce the Senior Youth Leadership (SYL) programme within the Ambassador Club to prepare more young adults for effective ministry and leadership.
Pr. Omayio further reminded members of upcoming youth events scheduled for later this year. These include the Pathfinder Camporee in Nakuru, where the registration fee will be KSh 1,000 per delegate, as well as Station Youth Congresses. He also urged churches to actively involve young people during the August Camp Meeting, emphasizing that their participation will help them feel valued and strengthen their commitment to the church.
He concluded by thanking the churches of Nyamira West Field for their unwavering support of the Youth Ministries Department, noting that such partnership continues to contribute significantly to the growth and success of youth ministry throughout the field.
